Camino de Compostela (Way of St. James) is a network of pilgrimage routes across Europe that lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Whether you believe the apostle St James is buried there or not is open to debate but it is, never-the-less, an important place to the Roman Catholic church.
Whether you walk the trails for spiritual reasons or just for pure enjoyment, it is a worthy undertaking. As always there is history all around you.
Our visit there was only fleeting but very enjoyable. It's a beautiful city and to witness the joy and sometimes elation of those completing their respective journeys was something to behold. You could see what it meant to people.
We'd highly recommend a visit of perhaps a couple of days to take it all in. We're contemplating coming back one day to complete our own 'pilgrimage'.
Have a look...
